Learning Curves and Context Switching

Andrew Hallam | | 17 March 2007, 17:21

A significant part of my current role as Remover of Mystery is learning. A lot of learning. At present I’m on the steep end of these learning curves:

  • Off-site disaster recovery,
  • Storage Area Networks (SANs)*,
  • Server virtualisation*,
  • Enterprise architecture,
  • Enterprise architecture management tools*,
  • Business intelligence tools*, and
  • Two way database replication.

(* Likely to result in product selection.)

It’s all interesting stuff, and thankfully there are a few people who can help me out, but the context switching is just insane. If you’ve been in a similar situation I’d love to hear how you managed.
