Ubuntu Feisty and Minimax 5500U

Settings for using a Minimax MM-5500U EVDO modem, on Telstra’s EVDO network, from Ubuntu Feisty. Possibly only of interest to Australian EVDO wireless broadband users.

This is a slight variation on Sonia Hamilton’s notes for Ubuntu Breezy.

Run “sudo pppconfig“. My connection is named “evdo”. There are the settings I used when selecting the Change a connection option:

Number: #777 (tone)
User user@telstra.pcpack
Password: telstra
Speed: 115200
Com: /dev/ttyACM0
Method: PAP

In advanced settings:

Modem init: AT+CRM=150
ISPConnect: ‘’
Prelogin:
Defaultroute: defaultroute
Ipdefault: noipdefault
Debug: enabled
Demand: disabled
Persist: disabled
Nameservers: static
  Primary: 61.9.194.49 (Telstra NSW)
  Secondary: 61.9.195.193
Add-User: <your-acct-name>
Remotename: evdo
Idle-timeoute: none

Save the configuration.

To connect: > pon evdo
To disconnect: > poff

You may need to turn off all other wired and wireless networking.
