Android 1.6 Upgrade, No Map Tiles
After upgrading my Google Dev Phone (HTC G1) from Android 1.1 to Android 1.6 Google Maps refused to display map tiles. While testing this a few times I received a “data connection lost” error.
Everything else seemed to be working correctly. The Internet connection was working when browsing the Web and searching the Market.
Some Google research finally found the simple answer:
Under Settings > Wireless controls > Mobile network toggle “Use only 2G networks” on and then off again (assuming you normally have this setting set to off).
That’s it.
